Following the overwhelming success of the second Robert Downey Jr. film blockbuster, Airship 27 Productions is pleased to present a brand new mystery suspense novel starring the Great Detective; Sherlock Holmes – The Baron’s Revenge by Gary Lovisi.

In 1902 Sir James Damery enlisted the aid of Sherlock Holmes to prevent the daughter of an old friend from marrying a womanizing Austrian named Adelbert Gruner who was suspected of murdering his first wife. Dr.Watson chronicled the case as “The Adventure of the Illustrious Client.” By its conclusion, Gruner was exposed to the young lady when Holmes came into possession of an album listing his many amorous conquest. Then a former prostitute mistress took her own revenge by throwing acid in his face and permanently disfiguring him.

Holmes believed the matter concluded. He is proven wrong when a hideous murder occurs rife with evidence indicating the Baron has returned. Soon the Great Detective will learn he has been targeted for revenge in a cruel and sadistic fashion. Not only does the Baron wish his death but he is obsessed with causing Holmes emotional suffering. He desires nothing less that the complete and utter destruction of the Great Detective in body and soul.

Now Gary Lovisi spins a fast paced tale of horror and intrigue that is both suspenseful and poignant, all the while remaining true to Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories. “The Baron’s Revenge” is a thrilling sequel to a classic Holmes adventure fans will soon be applauding.

After months of hard work, Rob Davis, the Art Director has finished work on the new official Airship 27 Productions website. Titled the Airship 27 Hangar, the site features two all important links.

The first brings visitors to the PDF store where all Airship 27 pulp titles are available for $3 dollars as PDF downloads for their PCs or various e-readers.

The second brings readers to the Airship 27 Print-On-Demand shop at Indy Planet. Indy Planet is a division of Ka-Blam, one of the leading print-on-demand operations in the publishing world today.

Bad Girls, Good Guys, and Two-Fisted Action: Genre-Bending: How Pure Should Pulp Fiction Be? New Pulp authors respond.

Sean Taylor posted an interesting query on his blog http://seanhtaylor.blogspot.com/. Sean asked 'How Pure Should Pulp Fiction Be?' Some of New Pulp's finiest responded.
When you think of pulp fiction, what springs to mind? The hard-boiled P.I.? The lost Earthman winning and wooing on Mars? The jungle lord? The aviator adventurer? The masked vigilante precursor to the comic book super hero? Weird horror tales with skeletons and damsels in distress? (For the sake of argument, let's all assume you didn't immediately go to the movie with John Travolta and Samuel Jackson, even as good as it is.)

Pulp has covered many genres, and was originally so named because of the cheap paper on which it was published. Pretty much everybody who loves the style knows that.

But, over time, some genres tended to become more synonymous with the definition of pulp than others.

And some would argue that pulp itself is a genre. (For the sake of this article, we're going to treat pulp as a style of telling a story and not a genre unto itself, since so many genres were represented within its ranks.)

Airship 27 Productions Closes POD On-line store.

“Effectively immediately, we have closed down our print-on-demand Lulu shop,” Ron Fortier, the Editor & Chief of Airship 27 Productions announced recently. “Some of their business practices have become questionable and not in line with our goals.”

Since its inception six years ago, Airship 27 Productions has offered their readers two editions of each of their titles. The first was handled by traditional book publisher, Cornerstone Book Publishers of New Orleans. Cornerstone prints the books and distributes them to all reputable book sellers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble via Ingram Distribution. Whereas the print-on-demand shop was established to offer readers a cheaper copy of the same titles for those readers who preferred not to deal with the bigger sellers.

Towards the end of last year, Airship 27 Productions opened a brand new digital store on-line where PDF versions of their titles could be purchased for $3 and downloaded to various new e-reading devices. Thus providing a third alternative option to readers.

“Both the Cornerstone editions and our PDF on-line store remain in full operation,” Fortier added. “And Rob Davis, our Art Director, will be opening a new P.O.D. operation as soon as we can negotiate with one of the many outfits providing these kind of services. Our goal remains to give our loyal readers the best quality pulp novels and anthologies for affordable prices. The three options scenario has worked extremely well for us and we believe it will continue to do so in the future. For those who bought only from our Lulu shop, we apologize for this temporary inconvenience. As soon as we have a new P.O.D. operation set up, we will make that announcement public.”

IMARO CREATOR JOINS AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS

Charles R. Saunders, one of the most respected fantasy adventure writers in the field, has joined Airship 27 Productions to create a black pulp hero. Saunders is best known for his series of novels featuring Imaro, the black warrior of an ancient, mythological Africa. His work has been compared to being equal parts Robert E. Howard and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Saunders and Airship 27 Editor, Ron Fortier, have been friends for many years. Saunders had been working for company which packages titles for Cornerstone Book Publishers as a proof-reader. It was the beginning of his first exposure to the world of pulps. One he enjoyed a great deal. Enough to offer Fortier an idea for a novel featuring a 1930s black avenger along the lines of the Shadow and the Spider.

“I was ecstatic when Charles brought up the idea,” says Fortier. “One of the less savory aspects of the pulps was their inherent racism. The pulps of the 1930s reflected a prejudicial ignorance that was representative of the country’s attitude during those times.” Today’s modern pulp writers and editors often grapple with this sensitive issue as whether or not to depict it accurately in their stories. Some opt to ignore it altogether.

“So that was the challenge,” Fortier continues. “Could Charles give us an African American hero and make it work in an authentic 1930’s New York setting?”

DAMBALLA, the name of the book, is Saunders’ response to that question. Cast in the mold of the classic pulp heroes, the noted author describes his new character as the 30s version of a well known cinema tough guy. “Damballa, like John Shaft, ‘will risk his neck for his fellow man,’” says Saunders. “The difference is, Damballa wears a cloak instead of leather jacket, and uses both ancient African wisdom and modern science in his battle against injustice.”

Airship 27 Productions plans to release this ground breaking pulp thriller in the Spring of 2011.

JIGGY WINS AT CHAMPION CITY

This past weekend I was a guest at the second annual Champion City Comic Con held in Springfield, Ohio. During the awards part of the show, one of my comic series won a prize. The Champion City Comic Con Award for Best Continuing Independent Series went to our Mr.Jigsaw, Man of a Thousand Parts..by yours truly and artist Gary Kato. This was a amazing honor and we are both humbled by it. Just so great to win this for a character that is truly near and dear to both of us. Thank you Champion City and all the members who voted for Mr.Jigsaw.
